Emily Ramey - Vice President

The performing arts have been Emily's passion from the moment she discovered musical theater in 5th grade. Her participation in the performing arts brought her endless joy and personal growth throughout middle and high school, inspired her to study theater in college, and now fuels her drive to ensure that all youth in Tahoe and Truckee have access to high quality performing arts education. She is honored to be the Assistant Director for Great Futures Productions at the Boys and Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe, as well as the Vice President of the TCT Board of Directors, allowing her to to work directly with youth and also behind the scenes to keep theater opportunities alive and thriving in our small mountain community. Emily strongly believes in the transformational power of the performing arts, seeing first hand how theatrical experiences open the hearts and minds of performers and audiences alike. Live storytelling has been inspiring humankind since the beginning of time, and is it an art form that deserves to be cherished and supported in all communities. It is Emily's promise to work tirelessly to ensure the performing arts continue to inspire our Tahoe/Truckee community for years to come.  When Emily is not working behind the scenes, you might catch her performing at Truckee Community Theater, as well as other theater companies throughout Reno/Carson. When not on stage (or behind it), she enjoys quality time with her husband Josh and son Emmitt. Her family has sacrificed a lot of time with Mommy so Emily can dedicate the necessary time it takes to keep the performing arts alive, and she is incredibly grateful for their support. Emily hopes you'll join TCT in experiencing our next live production, and looks forward to celebrating the performing arts with you!

Courtney Simson - Founder
Picture
Courtney Simson grew up in Berkeley, California, the daughter of parents heavily involved in local politics and community service.  Her father, a lawyer who was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, became fascinated with Asian culture and went to night school to master Japanese, and Courtney grew up serving cheese and crackers at parties at her parents’ home attended by concentration camp survivors, Berkeley City Council members, local artists, actors, and  playwrights, and college professors from Cal Berkeley.  (It took her years and moves to Texas, Los Angeles, and Hawaii to understand that not everyone has parties with such illustrious and erudite guests!)  She enjoyed a somewhat unusual lifestyle as a teenager, attending a Beatles concert at the Cow Palace and free musical events across from Berkeley High with performers like Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, and the Jefferson Airplane...groups no one had yet heard of outside the San Francisco Bay Area.  She studied theater arts at San Francisco State and UCLA and earned a degree in Commercial Recreation from Cal State Northridge, which in hindsight she feels taught her everything she needed to know from leadership to business skills to prepare for the eventual founding of  TCT.  She was an elementary and middle school English teacher for 22 years, earning “Teacher of the Year” from her peers at two different schools, and always, always directing shows with kids after school as a volunteer, often with 70 kids in the cast.  She is fiercely proud of our theater group, our directors, production staff, actors of all ages,  and Board members.  The love of her life is her husband, Anton, and she adores her daughter Amy, grandkids James, Sophie, and Benjamin, and her son, Tommy.  Her favorite quote is from entrepreneur Richard Branson:  “If your dreams don’t scare you, they are too small.”
